24-Yr-Old Incarcerated For ₦90,000 Phone Theft

24-year old Abubakar Yusuf has met his waterloo for allegedly stealing a Zawani android phone which has been valued at ₦90,000. A Kano Sharia Court in Fagge had ordered that be remanded in a correctional centre on Wednesday.

The defendant, who resides at Sheka Gabas, Kano, was facing a two-count charge of criminal house trespass and theft, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The Judge, Ismai’l Muhammad-Ahmed, ordered the remand of the accused in a correctional centre and adjourned the matter until June 13 for mention. Earlier, the Prosecution counsel, Mr Abdul Wada, had told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 13 at Sheka Karshen Kwalta Quarters, Kano.

He alleged that on the same date at 5:00 p.m., the accused criminally trespassed into one Yusuf Usman’s house, and stole the android phone. Wada noted that the offence contravened Section 133 of the Kano State Sharia Law.

Also, in a related development, a teenager, Ahmed Musa, was docked in a Sharia Court in Kano for allegedly stealing seven yards of plain material worth N10,500.

The police charged Musa, who resides in Yakasai, Kano with criminal trespass and theft.

The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Abdul Wada, told the court that Babagana Burma of Danladi Nasidi Quarters, Kano, reported the matter at the Fagge Police Station, Kano on May 16.

Wada said that the defendant criminally trespassed into the complainant’s shop and stole seven yards of plain material worth N10,500.

The prosecutor told the court that when the defendant was arrested, three and a half yards of the cloth were recovered from him. The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 120 and 131of the Sharia Penal Code.

The Judge, Ismai’l Muhammad-Ahmed, admitted the defendant to bail with one reliable surety who should be his relation. Muhammed-Ahmed adjourned the matter until May 30, for a summary trial.
