Controversial Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has condemned the gruesome murder of Deborah Samuel in Sokoto State which has sparked so much outrage amongst Nigerians.

The Shehu Shagari College of Education student was stoned and burnt alive for alleged blasphemy.

Gumi asserted that Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) never killed anyone despite insults by non-Muslims.

The cleric made the comment at a religious teaching in his Juma’at mosque in Kaduna.

In the message translated by Africa Daily News, New York, Gumi said the best way Muslims can prove their love for the Prophet is adherence to his words.

The cleric reminded all citizens that being a secular State, Nigeria is not governed by religious law.

‘Anyone who kills a non-Muslim, who they have agreed to live peacefully with, will not smell the fragrance of Paradise for 40 years,’ he said.

The Sheikh explained that Islam doesn’t allow anyone to take laws into their hands and warned Islamic leaders against instigating their followers.

‘If we think by killing Deborah, people who are not of the same faith with us will stop insulting our prophet, then we are in delusion’, he added.

In the aftermath of the recent killing of Deborah Samuel by some Muslim youths in Sokoto State, the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) has called on Governor Aminu Tambuwal to ensure that perpetrators of the dastardly act face the full wrath of the law.

ECWA also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to prevail on the Inspector General of Police and all other relevant security agencies to ensure that all the perpetrators of the dastardly act are ‘not only fished out but that they are brought to justice according to law’.

The church disclosed this through its President, Rev. Stephen Baba Panya, in Jos, the Plateau State capital.

Panya said, “It is with great shock that I received the sad news of the gruesome, heartless and callous murder of yet another young, promising Nigerian girl of the Christian faith, Miss Deborah Yakubu who, until her untimely death on May 12, 2022, was a 200 level Home Economics Student of the Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto.’

Africa Daily News, New York recalls that a few days ago, Deborah was reportedly murdered in cold blood at the Shehu Shagari College of Education by a group of Muslim students over what they claimed was blasphemy against the Holy Prophet Mohammed.
