Suspected bandits on Tuesday morning invaded Kudendan community, in Kaduna State and abducted a Catholic Church priest whose name was given as Reverend Fr. Joseph Akeke while also shooting a yet-to-be-identified number of people.

The incident sent many residents into serious panic, as they heard sounds of gunshots, thinking it was from the security operatives who were meant to be protecting the community.

A resident, Sunday Moses who spoke to newsmen said, ‘the kidnappers killed two security guards before gaining access to the Reverend Father’s house.’

He went on to explain that a woman and her two children were kidnapped, together with the priest.

Africa Daily News, New York recalls that this is coming less than a two weeks after no fewert than ten persons were murdered when suspected bandits carried out separate attacks in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

It was gathered that the bandits also abducted an unspecified number of people who were mainly women, from the communities during that particular operation that lasted for several hours without any form of counter force.

Although the State Government and police authorities are yet to provide official position on the incident, a local security source confirmed to reporters that the bandits had earlier attacked some villages in neighbouring Niger State where they kidnapped some people, and while on their way back to their camp passing through Birnin Gwari, they were attacked by some local vigilantes at Ungwan Bula, Unguwar Dafillo and Ijinga villages in Randagi district of Birnin-Gwari.

In retaliation, the bandits were said to have returned to the villages on Saturday morning and killed ten people, including six local vigilante members and four villagers. They also kidnapped an unspecified number of people during the operation.
