2023 INEC Formally Publishes Notice Of Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially published the notice of election for the 2023 general elections, in compliance with extant provisions of the law a move which has marked the beginning of political activities.

INEC made this disclosure in its daily bulletin issued by Victor Aluko, the Director of Voter Education, on Monday in Abuja which was sighted by Africa Daily News, New York.

It stated that the official notice on Monday, published in INEC offices in the 36 States of the Federation and the FCT, contains the date for the election and the place where the nomination papers are to be delivered.

‘As contained in the Notice, the date for the Presidential and National Assembly elections will hold on February 25, 2023, while the election for Governorship and State Houses of Assembly will hold on Saturday, March 11, 2023,’ INEC said.

INEC also urged political parties to take note that the place for delivery of nomination papers for the elective offices would be at the INEC Headquarters Maitama, Abuja, through the online portal established for the purpose.

Africa Daily News, New York recalls that the Commission had last week unveiled the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2023 general election in Abuja.

This was sequel to the signing into law the Amendment to the Electoral Bill by President Muhammadu Buhari last Friday.       

Meanwhile, the electoral umpire has also disclosed that it will do its best to improve the functionality of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) in the forthcoming by-elections and off-season governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states to esnure that the 2023 general elections suffers no hitches or issues.

INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu made this known recently while speaking in Abuja, at the first meeting of the year with the Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs).

He pointed out that the commission would ensure some of the challenges are tackled ahead of future elections, including the review election day administration.
