One of the painful truths many Africans have refused to avow is that the continent is the way she is mostly because, she lost connection with her roots due to imperialism. It is a bitter truth that many Africans, particularly Nigerians have refused to swallow. However, There are a number of people who clearly understand this and have been spreading the gospel to drive home the message. One of such people is a highly cerebral man from Nigeria – Paddy Obinna.

Paddy Obinna is a household name in Imo State. He is someone who has dedicated a substantial part of his life to correcting some of the ills bedeviling Nigeria particularly, and Africa generally by simply developing a ‘think inwards’ model to tackle the short comings.

‘Ndaa Paddy’ as he is fondly called is an Igbo Cultural Ambassador, philosopher, art curator, farmer, writer and newspaper publisher in his art house at Emekuku, Owerri, Imo State.

Anyone who has been to the popular city of Owerri in Nigeria would notice that it is a city adorned with some of the best hotels and hospitality outlets to be found in the entire country but seriously lacking in history and tradition. This is not supposed to be the case. That is why people like Paddy Obinna who have taken it upon themselves to preach tradition, culture even in the face of the threat posed by the so-called civilisation.

The truth is that Africa’s development can only come from within and not from Western metropolises, neither will it come from oriental benevolence nor from external aids. Only Africans can solve the problems confronting Africa and that can only be done when everyone begins to return to their roots.

The earlier we understand that it is time to ‘think home’ the better for us. It is high time we returned to our traditionΒ and discard the falsehood the white man implanted into our brains using deceit and organised religion. The time is ripe to pluck our own fruits with our original identity, eat our native foods with the aroma of their sweet nostalgia, drink our native drinks with pride and speak our mother tongues without feeling ashamed. The time is ripe for us to work towards finding solutions to our health problems by working on and developing our native herbs and roots which were freely given to us by nature. It’s time for us to discard the dummy that these natural and nutritious things are local and unfit for us.

The time is ripe for Africa and Africans to rise and resist the imperial falsehoods, the only way we can stop getting treated as second and third class citizens in the world when we start wearing our dignity with pride and prestige.

The truth is that it was the West who labelled our ancestors evil, they encouraged us to loathe them but they don’t do so with theirs. So who is fooling who? Why should another man come to tell us that we are evil and we wholeheartedly accept it? Why should the stranger come to us to disrespect our identity and continue to enslave us? We can only make a headway when when we begin to discard these anomalies and embrace our culture, tradition and history. This is what ‘Padism’ is all about and this is the reawakening ‘Ndaa Paddy’ is championing.

It’s time to think deep and reflect on a number of things which had been used to enslave us.Β  For them, it is convenient to call Western medicine, ‘MEDICINE’, but African medicine can only be called ‘TRADITIONAL’ Medicine. To them, a Western doctor is a ‘DOCTOR’ but down here, an African doctor can only be called a ‘NATIVE’ Doctor. Western religion is ‘RELIGION’ but African Religion is ‘TRADITIONAL’ Religion. European monarch is ‘MONARCH’ but African monarch is TRADITIONAL Ruler. It is time we re-examine these things and fix our minds. We have been fooled for too long.

Organised religion remains the biggest fraud ever sowed into mankind and this was the tool these marauding Imperialists and Colonialists used to cage us as Africans. The simple bitter truth which many followers and adherents of organised religions have refused to accept is that organised religion is FRAUD and it was only invented for control and subjugation. It is high time we discarded these fallacies and connect with the Deities that our ancestors served and lived better – morally conscious lives. We must do away with these religions which were simply introduced to us by the West and Arab nations simply to ensure we are better slaves in perpetuity.

Rare individuals like Paddy Obinna must be encouraged to continue to preserve whatever that is left of our arts and artefacts, and our cultural heritage which is fast eroding. Africa will remain the way she is if we don’t take these urgent steps. Dear Africa, it is time to rise and take back your destiny.
