Gunmen suspected to be bandits on Tuesday killed no fewer than two persons in a fresh attack on Rafinkada village of Wukari Local Government Council of Taraba State.

Several persons were confirmed to have sustained various degrees of gunshot injuries in the bloody attack.

Africa Daily News, New York gathered that properties worth millions of Naira were also destroyed by the attackers even as the reason for the attack is yet to be ascertained.

Residents of the community told reporters on Tuesday that the attackers invaded the community when the people were deeply asleep.

Stressing how they were forced out of their beds by gunshots, the residents said the whereabouts of some members of the community were still unknown.

Another source who spoke to newsmen also claimed to have narrowly escaped the scene confirmed that while two persons were killed on the spot, several others, according to him, managed to escape with gunshot injuries.

Chairman of Wukari LGA, Adi Daniel, who confirmed that attack, also admitted that two persons were killed by the gunmen.

According to him, although normalcy had been restored to the community, the need for more security operatives to be deployed to the area, he believed, can no longer be ignored.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the latest massacre of 15 people in Goronyo and Illela local government areas of Sokoto, warning that ‘this needless and mindless violence against innocent people cannot go unpunished.’

Many Nigerians including the Nigerian Senate and Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai have asked the president to declare the bandits as terrorists.
