Brigadier-General Shuaibu Ibrahim, the Director-General National Youth Service Corps, (NYSC), has warned Corps members against indiscipline throughout their service year.

The DG gave the warning on Tuesday at the Dazigau Permanent Orientation Camp in Yobe State during the swearing-in of the 2021 Batch ‘C’ Stream One corps members deployed to the state.

Represented by Mrs Hafsat Yerima, the State Coordinator, Ibrahim reminded the corps members that the regimented nature of the Camp is intended to further instil discipline and build their resilience.

‘You are expected to comply strictly with the set rules and regulations and be obedient to your course officials’, he admonished

The NYSC Director-General also cautioned them against indulging in cultism, drug abuse and other social vices.

‘I also urge you to use social media only for the promotion of unity and other positive purposes rather than rumour peddling and the promotion of hatred. At all times, you must be security conscious, and avoid putting yourselves in harm’s way’, he advised.

On job opportunities, Brig. Gen. Ibrahim told the corps members to focus on self-empowerment as white-collar jobs are not available.

‘It is no longer news that white-collar jobs are hard to come by. For this reason, the empowerment of Corps members for self-employment and wealth creation has been a major area of focus for the Scheme since 2012.’

‘You will from this moment be availed of that opportunity through our Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme’.

‘On our part, we shall continue to work with relevant stakeholders, including financial institutions, to enable you actualise your business dreams’.

He encouraged the corps members to stay off the long queue of job seekers by choosing from the various skillsets and participating fully in the training sessions.
