A lot has happened to Imo State in recent times and it is quite painful to note that it has only been a story of frying pan to fire for Imolites as their so-called Governor with his roughish, imbecilic style of Government keeps meting out unwarranted hardship to the people. Even the recent visit of the President of Nigeria, General (Rtd.) Muhammadu Buhari could do little or nothing to help with the situation in the State. If things should be detailed as they are, it can be said that things might even get worse with the State and her wards.
Things would be getting worse because Governor Hope Uzodinma in his usual method of messing even the simplest of things up has chosen to fall out with his benefactors – the Fulani Cabal who were very instrumental in his suspicious, questionable rise to power in the State. This was expressly confirmed by President Muhammadu Buhari after his last visit to the State where he made a cryptic statement about being sorely dissatisfied with how things have turned out in the State and with Governor Hope Uzodinma. He made the controversial statement when he was giving a speech after he visited the State on a courtesy visit to commission projects. The statement read:
‘Fighting corruption in Nigeria is very sophisticated. It is extremely difficult. Hope, Uzodima, I’ll be very careful with your future invitations’
This simple statement which can mean a lot of things to anybody surely goes a long way to showing how terrible Governor Hope Uzodinma’s government is when it comes to Governance. When scruntinised with a critical mind, it shows that even the President and the Fulani Cabal are dissatisfied with the outcome and the general vote of confidence passed on Governor Hope Uzodinma and his useless cabinet of leaders. The President minced no words about his dissatisfaction with the Governor in that statement. He made it clear that the Governor had fallen short of his approval rating and thus, he has wasted the golden opportunity which was given to him to by the Fulani Cabal to herald their leadership and dominance in the Southeastern region and Imo State to be precise.
Presidents are known to visit States to commission signature or legacy projects. Over the last administrations, Nigerian Presidents commissioned projects like airports, industries, major dual carriage federal roads, power plants, etc. State Governors usually implement such projects to show the President they are working and the President is proud to identify with such projects as part of their vision in the center, especially when they are of same political party with the Governor. But as usual, Governor Hope Uzodinma who portrayed an utterly desperate Governor who would do anything to impress his paymasters in Abuja, including backing down from the recently agreed open grazing ban by Southern Governors, invited a sitting President, who is supposed to be busy addressing the prevalent insecurity in the country, to commission gutters and uncompleted single carriage internal road projects. This is the reason why President Muhammadu Buhari took it as an affront on his person.
One might wonder why the President and the Cabal would feel this way about their ‘little southeastern stooge’. The reason is not so far-fetched from the fact that Governor Hope Uzodinma is a failure on all fronts of leadership in Imo State. President Buhari would have felt so terrible about the very low turnout he received when he visited Imo State on Thursday last week. He would have been particularly pained that there were no crowds to welcome him and no ‘genuine’ praise-singers to sing ‘Sai Baba’ for him and worship him to the high-Heavens even though it is no hidden fact that his popularity rating in the Southeastern region of Nigeria is quite low and he would squarely put the blame on Governor Hope Uzodinma for being the grand orchestrator of this terrible occurrence with his terrible leadership methods and his corrupt ways.
Fuel prices in Imo State have sky-rocketed as Governor Hope Uzodinma continues to be petty with the demands of the fuel marketers. Black market traders have decided to cash in on this opportunity to siphon masses of their hard-earned penny while selling adulterated petrol to consumers to make up for the fuel glut in the State. When Governor Hope Uzodinma was sumggled into office by the Fulani Cabal, he promised to fix security in the communities, he said he would organise a neighborhood watch in collaboration with the police. He also promised to fix the major roads and connect the big towns and he swore to make sure that he uses Julius Berger construction company to handle the construction of Owerri-Orlu and Owerri-Okigwe roads. He promised to be the end of corruption and racketerring in the Imo State civil service. One year and some months after, all these have been shown to be empty tales as he has shown that he is even worse than his predecessors.
The Fulani cabal are known to be quite ruthless and harsh when it comes to dealing with their stooges who are no longer in their favour. Their stooges who have deviated from their ‘orginal plan’ and those who have decided to make sure that they carve their own path after the Fulani Cabal have helped them with their influence and protection and this is the path Governor Hope Uzodinma is towing with them now. They have found out that he is still a corrupt fiend who has been completely intoxicated with power.
The work of a Governor is to make sure his administration does what is expected of them in terms of project delivery, infrastructural development and all round excellence in terms of leadership. Governor Hope Uzodinma only answers to the responsibility of a Governor as a title. He doesn’t behave like one at all. He is corrupt, harsh and utterly nepotic. He steals funds at will and siphons Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) like it is from his personal bank account. He does not have a standard project to show for his time in office and his on-going projects all around the state shows a haphazard maintenance structures with no completation date in sight.
