The Zamfara State Government has reacted to claims by some residents of the State that there has been a lapse in governance since Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle defected to the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Africa Daily News, New York reports that many of them have lamented that Matawalle has occupied himself focusing on the reconciliation with former Governor, Abdulaziz Yari, and Senator Kabiru Marafa’s faction of the APC in the state.
However, in a swift response, the state Commissioner of Information, Hon. Ibrahim Dosara, said that security challenges in the state was a household discussion before Governor Matawalle assumed office as the state governor and initiated a peace accord and reconciliation process to end banditry in the state in order to protect the people.

The commissioner explained that Insecurity in Zamfara State had created massive humanitarian crises with many rural dwellers affected by banditry.
‘And there were communities in Dansadau axis and other communities where the farmers had entirely abandoned their farmlands due to terror attacks before Governor Matawalle came to rescue the situation,’ he said.
He noted that there is nowhere in the state currently where farmers cannot go to the farm, or access Gusau, the state capital.
‘Residents are now moving freely in the state contrary to the claim by some residents that the people of Dansadau cannot come to the state capital except with the assistance of security operatives,’ he added.
He said that security, education, welfare, and the general well-being of the citizens remained top priorities of the present administration.
‘That is why the state government was spending huge amounts of money monthly to empower women, youths, and indigent citizens, to pull them out of poverty’ he said.
The Commissioner further stated that the carrot and stick approach adopted by the state government and the security agencies in the fight against banditry is still in force due to its effectiveness at returning peace to the state.
