No fewer than 400 migrants were been rescued from the Mediterranean by a vessel run by the medical charity Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF).

Africa Daily News, New York gathered that they were picked up by the MSF ship ‘GeoBarents’ over the past 48 hours.

The Medecins Sans Frontieres crew rescued the migrants – including women and children – in seven separate operations.

It’s not yet clear where the rescued migrants are being taken to even as rescue operations continue.

Last month, two Nigerian female migrants were among the rescued victims in a shipwreck off the coast of Tunisia on board an Europe-bound journey.

However, according to the reports, 17 other African migrants were not so lucky.

They drowned as they tried to cross the Mediterranean from Libya to Italy, the Tunisian Red Crescent had revealed.
