Abductors who were behind the kidnap at least 156 pupils of the Salihu Tanko Islamiyya School in Tegina town of Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State have increased the ransom for the release of the abducted pupils to ₦200 million.

This is coming just as the parents had raised ₦11 million out of the initial ₦110 million demanded.

Africa Daily News, New York gathered that the kidnappers increased the ransom after the parents failed to meet up the initial dateline they stipulated for the payment.

It would be recalled that the bandits had initially demanded ₦110million for the release of the children, threatening to kill them if the money was not paid.

The bandits got in touch with the parents Thursday evening informing them that the ransom had risen to ₦200million with the same threat of killing the pupils if the deadline is not met.

A parent, Malam Ali Muhammed, who has five children among the captives,  confirmed the latest demand from the abductors.

Muhammed said, ‘the bandits are serious about killing our children if we cannot pay.

‘We are poor people, we don’t have such money.

‘We plead with the government to come to our assistance.’

Africa Daily News, New York had earlier reported that the state government has not visited the parents or sent a representative to inform them of government efforts at rescuing those children.

Hence, many of the parents have concluded that the government has abandoned them.
