A New York Times journalist based in Ethiopia has been expelled from the country over his role in the coverage of the crises in the Tigray region.

Simon Marks, who is Irish, was held at the airport for eight hours before being put on a flight.

He tweeted that he was prevented from going home to say goodbye to his son and collect his belongings, including his passport.
