Ubowalla Community Outrightly Rejects RUGA; Protests Enmasse

There was huge pandemonium in Ubowalla, Emekukwu- Owerri North, Imo State when indigenes of the community comprising men, women and youths came out enmasse to decry the introduction and the implementation of the newly instated RUGA bill by the Governor Hope Uzodinma-led Government.

Africa Daily News, New York International Correspondents were live at the protest centre to witness the unfolding peaceful demonstration by the angry indigenes who felt slighted that the Imo State Government who had abandoned them in terms of infrastructural development and financial aid since the controversial ascension of Governor Hope Uzodinma as the Executive Governor of Imo State would choose to donate their lands for the controversial RUGA bill in the State.

The protesters were led and coordinated by Honourable Oriaku Nnanna, an esteemed indigene of the Ubowalla Community and one of their community leaders. Speaking to our reporters, he made it known that the community would in no way condone the influx of cows or herdsmen if the Imo State Government would keep playing a deaf ear to their pleas of development and growth.

In his words:

‘The Imo State Government have abandoned us for a very long time and now they want to bring in cows to the community.’

‘We are here to protest against the RUGA initiative and we want to protest against cows.’

‘We want to live with human beings, we want employment, since the government came into power, we have not gotten anything this is why we will not allow RUGA.’
