Speaking at the Police Headquarters in Calabar, during the protest, the spokesperson of the group, SP Iwara Ibiang (retired) described the ordeal of retired officers.

‘After 35 years, I was given less than ₦2.5m as a gratuity with a monthly pension of less than ₦40,000. ASP is taking home a monthly pay of ₦22,000’

‘After waiting for more than a year to get that meagre pay, we also want to exit from the pension scheme which has cheated the ex-officers on their retirement benefits,’ he said.

He further stressed that widows of colleagues who died in active service are yet to get ‘a dime after several years’ and described the pension scheme as a scam.

‘The protesters spoke extensively on the shabby treatment they have received since they retired from active service’
