Hostilities in the west of Chad between the military and rebels who launched an insurgency earlier this month from bases in Libya has continued.

According to a spokesman for the country’s military council, the recent clash was in the Kanem region near the border with Niger.

The area according to reports is close to where former President Idriss Déby was fatally wounded whilst visiting troops on the front line 10 days ago.

On Sunday the military council, led by the former president’s son, said there would be no negotiating with the rebel group, known as Fact.

Earlier this week at least six people were killed in clashes between security forces and demonstrators protesting against the military takeover.
