Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday congratulated the newly sworn-in president of the United States of America, President, Joe Biden, and the Vice President, Senator Kamala Harris as they took the oath of office.
President Buhari in a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu in Abuja on Wednesday night expressed hope that their presidency will mark a strong point of cooperation and support for Nigeria as well as the African continent.
The President congratulated the leaders, and the entire country on the successful transition, which marks an important historical inflection point for democracy as a system of government and for the global community as a whole.

He said, ‘We look forward to the Biden presidency with great hope and optimism for the strengthening of existing cordial relationships, working together to tackle global terrorism, climate change, poverty, and improvement of economic ties and expansion of trade.
‘We hope that this will be an era of great positivity between our two nations, as we jointly address issues of mutual interest.” The statement further said,” President Buhari and all Nigerians rejoice with President Joe Biden, sharing the proud feeling that the first woman elected Vice President of the United States has African and Asian ancestry’.
We had earlier reported that Joe Biden has been sworn in as the 46th President of the United States.
Biden took the oath of office at 11:50 am US time.
He was sworn in by Chief Supreme Court Justice John Roberts.
Biden was sworn in shortly after his vice, Kamala Harris took her oath of office.
Speaking under a bright winter sky, as snow flurries melted and the clouds parted, Biden declared ‘democracy has prevailed‘, during a ceremony that marked the perseverance of a sacred ritual of American democracy at the US Capitol, where exactly two weeks ago a swarm of supporters loyal to his predecessor stormed the building in a violent but futile last stand to overturn the results of the election.
‘Here we stand, just days after a riotous mob thought they could use violence to silence the will of the people,’ Biden said, looking across the sprawl of the capital city’s national monuments, now guarded by a military garrison unprecedented in modern times, and devoid of spectators as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
