Dr. Mrs Kema Chikwe born on the 12th of January, 1947 is a known face when it comes to women in Nigerian politics after having held several top positions as a civil servant under various Government tenures. Although in recent times she has distanced herself from active politics, her impact and legacies have continued to make a name for her in Imo State and in Nigeria at large.
Some of these legacies and positions include her contributions and active dispensation of duties in the women-wing of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Dr. Mrs Kema Chikwe also held several positions in Government some of which were her stints as a Federal Minister of Transport, a position she held from June 1999 to 2001 and then her work as a Minister of Aviation from 2001 to May 2003. She has also served as a Nigerian ambassador to Ireland and she currently serves as the National Women Leader of the PDP.
