In Nigeria, it has become a norm for security officials and first-class citizens to intimidate the struggling masses using forceful extortion, threats, and sometimes assault which could range from verbal, physical to emotional assaults. Most times, the victims in these scenarios are left for dead or in other cases too traumatised to relive their experiences. Such was the case of Mr. Sunday Daniel, who luckily managed to live to tell his tale after a harrowing experience with Nigerian Army officials.

On the 30th day of October, if anyone had told Mr. Sunday Daniel that he was about to have a very traumatising experience in the hands of Nigerian Army officials, he would have passed it off as one of those fake prophecies by the many self-acclaimed prophets who usually roam the streets of Nigeria seeking an audience. But on the contrary, he was destined to have a near brush with death at the hands of Nigerian Army officials.

A former acquaintance of Mr. Sunday Daniel who has been revealed to be Mrs. Ebekwe N. C. had reportedly asked a Lieutenant in the Nigerian Army to find and brutalise Mr. Sunday Daniel over some unresolved issues.  Acting quickly, the Lieutenant who has been revealed to be Lieutenant J.T. Egwu ordered some of his men to seek out Mr. Sunday Daniel with the intel which they had gotten from Mrs. Ebekwe.

Mr. Sunday Daniel was accosted by Lieutenant J.T. Egwu and his men and severely rough-handled. When they were done with him, they took him bleeding and almost unconscious to an Atm machine and proceeded to withdraw ₦150,000.00 from his UBA account and then transferred the sum of ₦100,000 from his account to two other accounts with account numbers: 002956829959 (Achigbu Uzoma Prince) and 002956830147. After this extortion, they took him to a nightclub nearby and again proceeded to forcefully extort him of another ₦50,000 which was all he had in his account. He was still being held hostage in the nightclub till 4 am in the early hours of the morning when he managed to escape after he noticed they were already too drunk to know what was happening.

The next day, he was too weak and broke to leave his house after having endured terrible beatings from the soldiers. Little did he know that he hadn’t seen the last of the soldiers from hell. The day following that which was a Sunday saw Lieutenant J.T. Egwu and his men numbering 8 soldiers paying him another unwanted visit. This time, they came for blood as the banged hard on his door with an intent to pull it down. Already very weak from the previous beatings, he managed to put a distress call across to the Pen-cinema police station nearby who then stormed his premises and carted away Lieutenant J.T. Egwu and his soldiers.

Mr. Sunday Daniel’s joy was very short-lived because as soon as they got to the police station, the police officers had a private talk with Lieutenant J.T. Egwu and soon they returned and asked Mr. Sunday Daniel to write a statement while issuing him an accused form. He was bewildered for a little while till the realisation that he had been framed by the soldiers set in. All pleas of his innocence fell on deaf ears as he was subsequently handcuffed and thrown into jail. He had to call his younger brother to come to the police station and bail him out with a sum of ₦10,000 for a crime which he did not commit.

Presently, Mr. Sunday Daniel is suffering from loss of hearing which is a result of incessant bleeding from his ears which was caused from the brutality meted on him by Lieutenant J.T. Egwu and his men.. He has not been able to work since then because of his deteriorating health. And amidst all these, the preparators of this heinous crime and abuse of human rights, Mrs. Ebekwe N. C and Lieutenant J.T. Egwu are still walking the streets, very freely.

Callous individuals like JT Egwu, and his ruthless gang who derive joy in trampling on the fundamental human rights of other citizens should not be allowed to escape justice for their irresponsibility, and callousness. It would be worthwhile if Mrs. Ebekwe N. C and Lieutenant J.T. Egwu face the consequences of their terrible actions against Mr. Sunday Daniel. They have brutalised an innocent Nigerian citizen and completely trampled on his rights as a human.

Consequently, Africa Daily News, New York is using this medium to plead with well-meaning Nigerians to intervene in this matter to save the life of Mr. Sunday Daniel who is currently battling with his health, and lack the finance to foot his medical bills since he can’t afford to return to his electrical/energy business due to the severe beatings he got from JT Egwu and his gangsters in Army uniform.
