Political permutations ahead of the 2023 presidential election are at an all-time high despite the fact that it still remains three more years before the next general elections. The conversation on who takes the baton of leadership from President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023 has been gaining momentum with groups, coalitions, and individuals establishing arguments on where the presidency should be zoned to. But amidst all these, many have agreed that the presidential preference should be allowed to berth within the Southeast region and in accordance to this fact, the question of who would represent the region has been cropped up in recent times.

Many credible candidates, including political bigwigs who had at one point or another manned political stations and renowned statesmen who are making their marks in the present government, have been fielded as potential candidates and have been praised for their abilities to carry the humongous mantle of representing a whole region in the most sought after position in the country.

Amongst all these, renowned London based international entrepreneur and administrative member of the Owerri Zone Group, a socio-political organisation, Chief Better Joseph Ekeh has thrown his weight behind the Minister of State for Education of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Honourable Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba in the race for the presidential seat. He described Nwajiuba’s sterling qualities as a politician with immeasurable expertise and the best the presidential candidate so far.

Chief Ekeh known for his pragmatism and doggedness in the Nigerian political circle while having a media chat with Africa Daily News, New York posited;

‘2023 presidential election in Nigeria is going to be an interesting one, especially due to the fact that all indications suggest that the Southeast geopolitical zone happens to be the one to produce the next President of Nigeria. And having Honourable Nwajiuba stepping out boldly for the race, gladdens my heart as well as many other Igbos because he is the most qualified. There might be other eminently qualifed candidates from the Southeast as well but Nwajiuba’s records are more sterling and as such supercede that of theirs. He is the best presidential candidate thus far, and that’s why I am already mobilising support for him. I only support the best, and Nwajiuba is the best’.

Looking deep into this decision, any political pundit rid of sentiments would understand that Honourable Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba is actually one of the most stellar candidates fit for the apex position. The Imo born law lord and political juggernaut has been in the country’s political sphere almost all his life. He was called to the Nigerian bar in 1989, after pursuing his LLM at University of Lagos and PhD at the University of Jos, respectively. After this, he served as the House of Representatives committee chairman on Land, Housing and works from 1999 to 2003 before contesting for Imo governorship on the platform of APP in 2003 where he hotly challenged the winner, Chief Achike Udenwa and only lost by a very minor margin, he contested again in 2007 and as a CPC candidate in 2011.

He was also the secretary of the Constitution Drafting Committee that produced the Constitution of the merger committee to form the All Progressives Congress, APC, in 2013. Honourable Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba has been President Muhammadu Buhari’s most trusted ally from the time of APP till date. He coordinated the political pressure group that bought 2019 All Progressive Congress, APC, presidential nomination and expression of interest forms for President Muhammadu Buhari. Nwajiuba, who remains a core APC member, won election into the House of Representatives to represent Okigwe North Constituency under the ticket of the Accord Party in the 2019 poll. He defected to the ruling APC shortly after his nomination for the minister and subsequent screening by the Senate.

His political expertise and experience has worked well for him in the past and will come in handy for this race for the apex position in the country. He also has the support of most Southeastern indigenes and political groups.

Chief Better Joseph Ekeh is a well known political pundit who knows his onions on political affairs in the country and his support for Honourable Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba is no sentimental based affair. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba has cut his teeth in the game of politics in Nigeria and he surely deserves a shot at vying for the top seat.
