Akpabio Absent As Senate Opens Investigation Into ₦40bn NDDC Scam

The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio was absent as the Senate Ad-hoc Committee on Investigation of the alleged financial recklessness in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) commenced investigation on Tuesday.

The Committee which was constituted by the Senate President, Dr Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan was necessitated by petitions that the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the NDDC spent ₦40 billion in three months.

Addressing the top management of NDDC and top officials of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, the Chairman of the Senate Ad-hoc Committee, Senator Olubunmi Adetukunmbi emphasised that the investigation was within the statutory powers of the Parliament, hence, it was not intended to witch hunt anyone.

However, the Committee believes due process was not observed thereby allowing infractions in the financial outlay of the agency.
