Wuhan, the epicentre of the novel coronavirus outbreak in China, has reported its first new infections since the lifting of lockdown on the central Chinese city.

According to the Chinese state media, the Wuhan health authorities made this known in a statement on Monday stating that five cases were discovered on Sunday in a single residential community, the first confirmed in the city since April 3.

The health authorities said that 17 new infections were reported in China on Monday, Seven out of the cases were “imported” on a flight to Beijing that stopped in Inner Mongolia’s Hohhot for screening, while the remaining five were local transmissions discovered in north-east China.

“At present, the task of epidemic prevention and control in the city is still very heavy.

“We must resolutely contain the risk of a rebound.

“All of the latest confirmed cases were previously classified as asymptomatic, people who test positive but do not show symptoms of the virus but are capable of infecting others,”the statement added.

Recall that Coronavirus which broke out in Wuhan Province of China late last year gradually spread through several countries of the world, prompting the WHO, to declare the disease a Public Health Emergency of International Concern in January 2020.
