Barrister Olusegun Bamgbose, the National Coordinator, Concerned Advocates for Good Governance, CAGG, has charged President Muhammadu Buhari to declare his support and that of Nigeria for President Donald Trump’s re-election come November 2020.

The US election is fixed for November 2020 and Donald Trump, the candidate of the Republican and other presidential candidates have intensified their campaigns.

Bamgbose, noted that the recent visa ban on Nigeria may not have come at the best of times but added that Nigeria must not sit on the fence.

In a statement on Saturday, the senior lawyer said that in the theater of international diplomacy and politics , it will be worthwhile for President Buhari to tactically and strategically support the candidature of Trump.

According to him, “President Buhari should do this and it’s most likely Nigeria will be better for it. We must as a country identify with him at this time.

“Whichever way we look at it, the need to sustain the existing relationship with America is sacrosanct.

“The devil we know is better than the angel we don’t know. Trump’s four more years will be of immense benefit to the development of Nigeria.”

He disclosed that a network has been established to proactively support the candidature of Trump, maintaining that the “United States presidential elections should be of interest to us in Nigeria.”

Explaining further, the Lagos-based legal practitioner and politician said “They [US] buy our oil, they recently doled out $40 million to Nigeria. We are still expecting them to deliver to us fighter jets to combat insurgency.

“It’s against this background that I’ll urge Nigerian government not to be aloof as per the November Presidential election.

“Trump remains our best bet for now. Nigeria has a lot to gain if Trump goes back to White House.”
