THE NEW NIGERIA IN HER ADOLESCENT

The successful transition to democratic rule in Nigeria in 1999 marked the beginning of better things that comes with democracy. For a nation like Nigeria which has witnessed a lot of instability since her independence in 1960, the ushering in of democracy increased people’s expectations for a better future. This has not been realised to match th level of People’s expectations owing to bad leadership which our country is known for since independence from Britain ; big thanks to them anyway.

Over the years I have come to judge the high level of these expectations on the side of Nigerians as an over expectation owing to the fact that those whom the management of the affairs of the Country were handed over to are those who were groomed in the same system that is obviously corrupt to the latter, and thereby making it a disadvantage to us as a people; another big thank to the collonial masters Britain. These short comings made it clear that our democracy is going to be a journey and not a destination as most Nigerians take it to be. But it must be understood that life itself is a journey, and our democracy can not be otherwise.

The events of the past ten years since democracy was ushered in have proved to us that democracy is like a seed which when sowed must pass through all the stages that nature required it to undergo before becoming a fruit bearing tree.

On our Democracy, passing through these stages is not what will make it what it will become rather it is the mastery of the person’s that it is in their hands to read within the line and ensure that the Democratic seed sown is properly cared for from the stage of germination through to the stage of fruiting. This requires sincerity, determination, selflessness, patriotism on the side of leaders and prayefulness and proper education  on the side of citizen’s to achieve the aims of greatness as a nation.

STAGES OF LIFE IN MAN

If you look towards the angle of human development, nature has three clear stages it designed for man to pass through in life. It ranges from Childhood, Adolescent and Adulthood. All these stages are what every man must pass through. This further confirms that every thing created; seen and unseen, material and immaterial must pass through several stages before the emergence of the end product. And for Nigeria, a people’s participatory democracy that will give the people the power of decision making as it was the sole aim of George Washington’s system of government historically invented by Greeks.
