Gov Ikpeazu Reacts To Death Of Abia LG Chairman

Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has expressed profound shock at the news of the sudden death of the Transition Committee Chairman of Arochukwu Local Government Area, Hon. Maurice Onyekachi Okoro.

THISDAY had reported that the Transition Committee Chairman of Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia, Mr Onyekachi Okoro, is dead

He was also a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the area.

Okoro was said to have slumped at a private residence in Umuahia around 1pm on Thursday and died before he could get medical help.

The PDP Chairman Mr Anthony Nwankwo, confirmed the incident to newsmen at the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, where the deceased was taken to for medical attention.

Nwankwo, who was a close political ally of the deceased, said that he slumped after holding a meeting with some officials of the council in Umuahia.

However, Governor Ikpeazu in a press release issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Onyebuchi Ememanka on Friday morning in Umuahia, described the Late Okoro as a hardworking and dedicated politician whose commitment to excellence in service was not in doubt.

Ikpeazu said, “Hon. Okoro had shared with me some wonderful ideas which he planned to implement in his Local Government and I was deeply impressed with his depth. His sudden death is a huge blow to me personally and our administration”.

“This death is yet another reminder to us mortals of the ephemerality of life and the inevitability of death. As such, all of us must strive to live above aboard. For those who hold public offices, we must at all times, strive to serve with diligence and honesty, as those will be our most enduring legacies should our exit time comes, as it has for Hon. Okoro”.

“Governor Ikpeazu sends his deepest and heartfelt condolences to the family of the Late Chairman and the entire people of Arochukwu Local Government Area, and prays for the good Lord to accept his gentle soul and comfort the bereaved.

Onyekachi Okoro was amongst the 17 Local Government Areas Transition Committee Chairmen inaugurated by the Governor on 18th December 2019.
