The police in Cross River State have begun a manhunt for the kidnappers of the state Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Ben Ukpepi, who was abducted from his residence on Tuesday.

The police said they were combing the creeks to rescue Ukpepi, who was whisked away from his CROSPIL Estate residence in the Akpabuyo Local Government Area of the state around 8pm.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Irene Ugbo, told our correspondent on Wednesday that the police were already combing the creeks to rescue Ukpepi.

“Our men moved to the creeks this morning. They are on it. So, let’s wait for the result before the end of the day,” she said.

It was gathered that Ukpepi received a phone call before he was abducted.

A source stated that the NLC chairman was outside with some persons taking fresh air when he decided to go inside the house.
