This is because almost two years after the recall of LAWMA, heap of refuse still dot many parts of the city for days with nobody clearing them.
For instance, on the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, virtually every bus stop has a heap of waste, with signs that those tasked with duty of clearing the refuse had not been around to clear it in the last one week.
From Maza Maza bus stop along Orile-Badagry Expressway to Mile 2, Second Rainbow, Coker, Sanya, Ijesha, and Cele bus-stops on the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, The Guardian observed, yesterday, that there were heaps of waste waiting to be cleared.
And it was noticed that the refuse gradually built up from last week Monday till yesterday.
It was also observed that from last Thursday, some of the refuse were dumped on the median, between the fast and service lanes of the expressway. The refuse were not bagged.
Surprisingly, the state government recently launched a campaign where it implored residents to always bag their waste. In all the locations where there were heap of refuse, they were not bagged waste.
It would be recalled that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, while celebrating 100 days in office said over 20 million units of waste bags had been produced for distribution so that residents could bag and sort their waste appropriately.
He promised that 40 million units of waste bags would be produced in the coming weeks, as his administration was not about excuses but finding solutions to problems and challenges confronting residents and the state.
A resident, Tajudeen Adebayo said it is a pity that even with the return of LAWMA, the refuse are still being seen on streets and major roads.
He called on the governor to fulfill his pledge of keeping the city clean.
