36 years after debuting the Moonwalk dance move, the silver socks Michael Jackson wore for the iconic dance move is up for auction.
In 1983, Jackson performed “Billie Jean” on the television special Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever. For his performance, Jackson was dressed in his signature black trousers, silver socks, silver shirt, black-sequined jacket, rhinestoned glove, and black fedora.
It was at that stage that Jackson performed the Moonwalk for the time in public. The dance move would later become his signature dance move and seal his status as a pop icon.
According to Gottahaverockandroll.com, the auction site, the silver socks may fetch between $1 million (N362,500,000) to $2 million (N725,000,000).
The socks is part of a collection of over fifty Michael Jackson artefacts from the personal collection of his manager Frank DiLeo. DiLeo signed Jackson to Epic Records and also managed the pop star for five years in the 1980s.
The sock comes with a signed letter from Jackson to DiLeo presenting the socks to him as a token of appreciation for keeping Jackson “on his toes” throughout the Victory Tour.
