148. EXT. CHIEF TEJUOSHO’S RES. NIGHT.

CHIEF TEJUOSHO sitting in his VERANDAH and sipping a GLASS of BRANDY; enjoying the NIGHT’S COOL BREEZE as SHOLA saunters into the COMPOUND.

CHIEF TEJUOSHO

Hey! Stop there, my friend.

Shola stopping briefly and staring at him with disdain.

CHIEF TEJUOSHO

Where on earth, are you coming from at this ungodly hour of the night?

SHOLA

Chief, what sort of question is that? Am I under any form of incarceration in my own house?

CHIEF TEJUOSHO

Listen to yourself; just listen to the nonsense emanating from your mouth. A married woman still gallivanting everywhere till almost mid night. What a shame!

SHOLA

Chief, you know what? I don’t have time for a man who nags like a woman, please excuse me!

She walks out on him.

CHIEF TEJUOSHO

I don’t blame you; I blame myself for deliberately bringing a curse like you into my life in the name of marriage.

149. INT. CHIEF TEJUOSHO’S RES. DAY

CHIEF TEJUOSHO’S TWO WIVES are in the KITCHEN, quarrelling and fighting over the GAS BURNER before CHIEF calms the situation.

MRS. TEJUOSHO

Shola, why did you remove my pot from that burner when there are other burners you can use?

SHOLA

Because it burns faster and I want to use it, do you have a problem with that?

MRS. TEJUOSHO

Yes, I do!

SHOLA

Then you go hang yourself to death!

MRS. TEJUOSHO

Shola! Shola! Why are you bent on creating problems in this house? Does peace irritate you?

SHOLA

You’re the one that peace irritates, useless woman!

MRS. TEJUOSHO

…She gives her a blinding slap that sends her crashing on the cupboard.

SHOLA

She rises to her feet and grabs a club.

So, you want to fight eh? I will show you! I will deal with you, stupid old woman!

MRS. TEJUOSHO

Swiftly wrestles her to the floor and collects the club.

Look at her, at your age; you’ve already burnt your strength on men.

CHIEF TEJUOSHO

Rushes in having heard the noise and separates them.

Oh! My God! These women again! Can’t we for once have peace in this house? Am I the only man with a polygamous home? Do you women want to kill me before my time?

SHOLA

Is this witch of a woman that you call your first wife! She wants …

CHIEF TEJUOSHO

Shut up! Shut up! I didn’t ask you to talk! Henceforth, I don’t want to hear both of you ever raising your voice in this house. Do I make myself clear?

MRS. TEJUOSHO

Yes chief.

CHIEF TEJUOSHO

Shola, do you understand me?

SHOLA

I’m not deaf, I heard you.

CHIEF TEJUOSHO

Grabs her by the arm.

I didn’t ask if you heard me, I asked if you understand what I just said.

SHOLA

I understand you. Leave me alone! Or do you want to kill me?

She walks away as he leaves her, apologetically, chief stares at Patricia without uttering a word before he eventually leaves the kitchen.

Good morning darling, what would you like to have for breakfast?

 BEN

I am not hungry.

MRS. BEN

I will be in my room, if you’re ready to eat, please let me know so I can come and prepare something for you.

MR. BEN

And stealing a look at her as she leaves

God! How am I supposed to divorce her, oh! She’s been such a wonderful wife to me but I want shola, how do I do this. Uh! This is difficult.

151. INT. GYM. DAY

NGOZI and RITA exercising as they discuss.

RITA

Ngozi, are you going to be in church this evening for the singles fellowship?

RITA

Ngozi! Ngozi!

NGOZI

Oh! My dear.

RITA

No! This is not you, what’s bothering you?

NGOZI

Nothing. Nothing really, I’m only tired.

RITA

You know that’s not true, you’re my friend and I know you like the back of my palm. Tell me, what’s actually wrong?

NGOZI

It’s my company.

RITA

And what about it?

NGOZI

It’s really going through some hard times and is already bringing a lot of worries to my boss and I feel I should help but I don’t know how to go about it.

RITA

I understand how you feel but don’t throw in the towel no matter what happens in fact this is the time for you to give in your best, don’t forget you’re a daughter of Zion and you’re known for impact. Your contribution can actually save the company from brink of collapse; I hope you understand what I mean?

NGOZI

My dear, I do.

RITA

So, cheer up and commit the affairs of the company into the hands of God. He’s capable.

152. INT. CHIEF TEJUOSHO’S RES. DAY.

MRS. PATRICIA TEJUOSHO, on a SUNDAY MORNING sits in their LIVING ROOM seeing a MOVIE and CORDELIA saunters in from the BED ROOM to inform her that she’s leaving for CHURCH SERVICE after exchanging PLEASANTRIES with her.

CORDELIA

Good morning mum.

MRS. TEJUOSHO

Good morning my daughter, how’re you?

CORDELIA

I’m fine mum and you?

MRS. TEJUOSHO

My daughter, I wish I had some peace in this house.

CORDELIA

Mum, peace of mind only comes from God; you will have it in abundance if only you draw nigh to him.

MRS. TEJUOSHO

Honestly, my daughter, I’m really getting fed up with life.

CORDELIA

Mummy, whatever you feel you’ve lost, our Lord Jesus Christ can restore it to you seven fold so please join me to church this morning and lay your burden before him, he’s able to take care of it.

MRS. TEJUSOHO

Don’t worry, just go, I will join you some other time.

CORDELIA

Mum, no amount of movie or television programmes you see can give you peace of mind, it’s only God that will do that for you and the earlier you realize this and surrender your life to him, the better for you. I’m leaving!

MRS. TEJUOSHO

Bye – bye!

…to be continued.
