117. INT. FIBERISIMA’S RES. NIGHT
The TRIO of CHIEF, his WIFE and NGOZI sit at the DINING TABLE having their MEALS happily.
MRS. FIBERISIMA
My dear, we’re happy to have you here dining with us this evening.
NGOZI
Thank you ma. I’m highly honoured, once again I apologize for coming late, I was actually waiting for ken to bring me here but when I waited for a long time and he wasn’t coming, I had to find my way here. Please sir, please ma, I’m really sorry for keeping you waiting, it wasn’t intentional; forgive me.
MRS. FIBERISIMA
It’s all right my daughter, we’ve already forgotten about that, honestly, we’re so pleased to have you here, chief aren’t we?
CHIEF FIBERISIMA
Sure!
MRS. FIBERISIMA
You see, so we’re pleased.
NGOZI
Thank you sir, thank you ma.
They nod their head in response.
CHIEF FIBERISIMA
So, my young lady, can you tell us a bit about yourself?
NGOZI
Sir, my name is Ngozi, Ngozi Osondu, I’m from the eastern part of the country precisely Owerri, the only daughter of a widowed mother. I’m a lawyer by training and currently I work with swift communication as corporate affairs director and legal adviser.
MRS. FIBERISIMA
So you’re an orphan?
NGOZI
Yes ma, I actually lost my father when I was barely ten years old.
CHIEF AND MRS. FIBERISIMA
Oh! Sorry about that.
NGOZI
Thank you. I really thank God I have been able to live with that void.
MRS. FIBERISIMA
It’s all right my daughter; at least you’ve been able to make something out of your life.
CHIEF FIBERISIMA
I’m really impressed with your progress unlike some young ladies these days that are only interested in running after successful men without doing anything to help themselves.
NGOZI
Thank you sir.
MRS. FIBERISIMA
Now, my daughter, I hope you wouldn’t mind if I ask you this question?
NGOZI
Not at all ma.
MRS. FIBERISIMA
Do you really like our son, ken?
NGOZI
Mum, I not only like him, I love ken with the entirely of my being.
MRS. FIBERISIMA
You do?
NGOZI
So much,Ma.
MRS. FIBERISIMA
So, when are we expecting to hear the wedding bell giggling?
NGOZI
Mum, actually, ken had proposed to me a couple of times in the past but I’m a Christian and he’s not saved yet and you know the bible says we shouldn’t be on equally yoked with unbelievers so I turned down his proposal and insisted that he must be genuinely born again before he marries me but he’s not interested in that.
MRS. FIBERISIMA
My daughter, we all know that he’s a difficult character to deal with but do your best to see how you can lead him to God.
NGOZI
I will ma, we all, should keep praying for him till God changes him.
MRS. FIBERISIMA
I pray so, I pray he changes soon.
CHIEF FIBERISIMA
Woman! Why don’t you allow the young lady to enjoy her meal? She’s not God that will change ken.
MRS. FIBERISIMA
My daughter, don’t mind me every, mother wants the best for her son.
NGOZI
It’s all right mum, I understand you.
MRS. FIBERISIMA
Hope you like the food.
NGOZI
Very well, it’s quite delicious.
MRS. FIBERISIMA
Thank you, I personally prepared it. Hope you’re a good cook as well?
NGOZI
Yes ma.
CHIEF FIBERISIMA
Well, we hope to taste your meal one of these days.
General laughter.
…to be continued.
