107. INT. KEN’S RES. NIGHT.

MRS. FIBERISIMA sitting in her SON’S LIVING ROOM as she waits for her to return from WORK. And OBOT serves her WATER to DRINK.

…Obot placing before her a bottle of water and glass.

MRS. FIBERISIMA

Thank you, my dear.

OBOT

Thank you ma. I think he’s back.

MRS. FIBERISIMA

I hope so.

…Ken walks in with a new girl.

OBOT

Welcome sir.

KEN

Obot, how’re you.

OBOT

Fine sir, mummy is here.

KEN

Oh! I see, where’s she?

OBOT

She’s in the living room, sir.

KEN

Oh! Mum, you’re here?

MRS. FIBERISIMA

I hope I’m still welcomed in your house, Ken?

KEN

Sure mum! Just that I’m a bit surprise to see you here at this time; you hardly stay out this late.

MRS. FIBERISIMA

Ken, sit down, I came to see you.

KEN

Sweetie, please wait for me upstairs.

STREET GIRL

All right, please don’t keep me waiting.

KEN

No, I wouldn’t.

MRS. FIBERISIMA

So, who’s that?

KEN

Well, she’s a friend.

MRS. FIBERISIMA

Ken, for God’s sake, when will you stop this sort of reckless living?

KEN

Mum, please can we talk about why you’re here?

MRS. FIBERISIMA

Ken, you’re my only son and it beckons on me as a mother and a good Christian to tell you the truth always irrespective of how you feel about it. My son running up and down with women, especially those of easy virtues will only ruin your life. Please, my son; settle down with a decent woman that will love you not these ones that are after your wealth they just want to suck you dry.

KEN

Mum, your son has made enough money that can out live over ten generations so ten million women put together can never liquidate me.

MRS. FIBERISIMA

My son, must you use your wealth on frivolities? Can’t you use your wealth to do things that will glorify God?

KEN

Mum, please I had a hectic day at the office today, please, I beg of you; I’m not ready for any sermon right now.

MRS. FIBERISIMA

Well, I didn’t come here to sermonize over known virtues even by teenagers, I only want to talk to you about this girl, what’s her name, em… the one that was cooking for you here the other day I came.

KEN

You mean, Ngozi?

MRS. FIBERISIMA

Yes, that’s right!

KEN

What about her?

MRS. FIBERISIMA

Something keeps telling me ever since I met her that she’s a good person; I really want to get to know her better.

KEN

So, how do you intend doing that?

MRS. FIBERISIMA

Well, for a start; I’m inviting you both for lunch this weekend.

KEN

This weekend? Mum, I’m not sure is gonna be possible, I got a couple of engagements to ….

MRS. FIBERISIMA

I know you wouldn’t want to come because of your dad but make sure you bring her; you can zoom off after you’ve brought her if you so desire.

KEN

I will try.

MRS. FIBERISIMA

I’m leaving; I think I have stayed out for too long … One more thing, ken.

KEN

What’s it mum?

MRS. FIBERISIMA

I would like to have her telephone number so I could inform her, myself.

KEN

I will send it to your phone; I don’t have it off hand.

MRS. FIBERISIMA

Why can’t you give it to me now?

KEN

Mummy, my battery is flat. Trust me, I will send it as soon as I recharge my battery.

MRS. FIBERISIMA

Ken! Ken!

KEN

Yes mum.

MRS. FIBERISIMA

Are you sure, you will remember with this burden you came home with?

KEN

I don’t understand mum, what burden?

MRS. FIBERISIMA

Ken, tonight, you’re going to sleep with a woman that is not legally married to you and that’s fornication and like all sins, it’s a burden son, I pray one day, you will come to understand some of these things. Good night!

 108. EXT.FIBERISIMA’S RES. DAY.

CHIEF and MRS. FIBERISIMA sit in front of their PALATIAL BUILDING, taking FRESH AIR and sipping ORANGE JUICE leisurely as they discuss. And the LATTER speaks with NGOZI on PHONE.

MRS. FIBERISIMA

So, my dear, I hope you will honor my invitation? Oh! That would be nice of you… since you prefer it in the evening, say 6pm, will that be okay? All right then… so, he will bring you…. All right, till then, my dear. Oh! What a lovely girl!

CHIEF FIBERISIMA

And who’s this lovely girl?

MRS. FIBERISIMA

One of your son’s girl friends…

CHIEF FIBERISIMA

I wonder if I still have a son.

MRS. FIBERISIMA

Chief, please don’t talk like that he’s still your son despite his short comings, don’t forget that we all err yet God, our father still doesn’t disown us. Please, don’t write him off.

MRS. FIBERISIMA

Chief, do you know that of all Ken’s girl friends this one is the best behaved. The only one who comes to cook his meals?

CHIEF FIBERISIMA

I heard that he has well over thirty girl friends, so how come you easily figured this one out?

MRS. FIBERISIMA

Chief, please, this question is not necessary now; the important thing is that she strikes me as a nice girl with a good home training.

CHIEF FIBERISIMA

That’s good; I hope she can positively influence Ken?

MRS. FIBERISIMA

That’s why I want to get Ken to marry her.

CHIEF FIBERISIMA

How do you intend to do that?

MRS. FIBERISIMA

Leave that to me, I’m a woman. I have already invited her to lunch with ken this weekend.

CHIEF FIBERISIMA

Don’t bother yourself cooking or expecting them.

MRS. FIBERISIMA

Why did you say so?

CHIEF FIBERISIMA

Because I know, even for a billion US Dollars, ken wouldn’t want to be here.

MRS. FIBERISIMA

I’m not particularly expecting ken, I’m more interested in knowing the young woman better.

CHIEF FIBERISIMA

Let’s hope, he brings her.

…to be continued.
