76. INT. JEFF’S RES. DAY
COLLINS sits in the LIVINGROOM viewing a TELEVISION PROGRAMME and seems to be really interested in it while JEFF comes in from the BEDROOM to SPEAK with him.
JEFF
Good morning, Collins.
COLLINS
Tax collector, you’re still at home; I thought you’ve gone to work?
JEFF
Could you please turn down the volume of the television, I want us talk now?
COLLINS
Oh! God, why is the devil always using you to disturb my pleasure? Now, I’m seeing an interesting programme, you’ve come to distract me with your inconsequential matter, anyway talk! I have turned down the volume.
JEFF
Thank you for finally doing that.
COLLINS
My friend, go straight to the point.
JEFF
The Landlord was here two days ago…
COLLINS
And how does that concern me?
JEFF
A lot Collins, he actually came to see you and I must tell you, he complained bitterly about your attitude becoming very unbearable…

COLLINS
Jeff! Jeff! Please give me a break! How is my attitude becoming unbearable, I mean do I live in his apartment? If that’s the avenue you’re employing to kick me out of your apartment you had better come out openly and tell me to vacate your place instead of using the Land-Lord as an excuse.
JEFF
Me and you have been friends since child hood, we’ve come a long way, though we no longer like the same things as we used to because I perceive that such reckless lives of womanizing and excessive consumption of alcohol can only bring doom to one and decided to toe the path of righteousness…
COLLINS
Preacher! Preach on!
JEFF
I’m not here to bore you with any sermon but the summary of all I want you to understand is that you’re living a riotous life and it doesn’t pay, also it’s beginning to affect others around you; please for God’s sake desist hence forth from keeping late nights and making a hell of noise with your whores whenever you return, please I beg of you.
COLLINS
I’m an adult, for the mere fact that you’re harboring me in your apartment doesn’t give you the right to tell me how to live my life; all right.
JEFF
My brother, I’m not telling you how to live your life, all I want you to understand is that rough life kills and besides, the Landlord is threatening to ask mw to quit his house if you continue with your attitude; and now, I have lost my job and I am not in any way ready to go through the hassle to start looking for a new accommodation, please, I beg of you re-trace your steps before it’s too late.
COLLINS
No wonder! No wonder your preaching is becoming more fire brand, you’ve lost your tax collecting job? Anyway, I have heard you.
77. INT. JEFF’S RES. DAY
JEFF is set to LEAVE for CHURCH SERVICE and VOICES begin to SPEAK to him each trying to CONVINCE him to believe what they’re saying.
VOICE I
Now, young man; take a good look at yourself, smartly dressed for church but is there anything to show that attending church services is indeed blessing you? Just be sincere to yourself.
VOICE II
You’re alive today, hale and hearty not because of your power but simply by the mercy of God, that should be enough for you to be grateful to God and be glad to worship him as well.
VOICE I
What’s life without progress? Certainly, you will agree with me that when you have the former without the latter, it becomes a burden; so, tell me why should you be grateful to the so called God for being life and suffering?
VOICE II
Jeff, is life not much more important than what to sustain it with? That same God that kept you alive up to this moment will definitely see to it that your needs are met.
VOICE I
My friend, don’t listen to that, one of your needs is it not a good job? So all this while if he really cared about you, why didn’t he provide you with one instead the little you had, he took it away from you, what a wicked God! Yet you’re still serving him. Wake up my friend! Can’t you see he has nothing to offer you?
VOICE II
Though your situation right now, may be disheartening and discouraging but I want you to keep trusting in Christ Jesus, the solid rock that never cracks or fail; he won’t disappoint you for no one who ever believes in him whole heartedly ever regrets it, please my dear, don’t let the devil deceive you, the only thing, he has to offer you is destruction if you heed his damnable advice. Do you really want that? I’m sure you wouldn’t so don’t listen to any of his deceits anymore, pick up your Bible right now and go to church, for in the presence of God, there’s fullness of joy.
JEFF
Lord, I know you can’t lie for you’re not a son of man to do that so my God and Savior, once again I re-affirm my trust in you.
He takes his Bible and humming the tune of ‘Great is thy faithfulness’.
Technicality-background music still playing softly as he leaves.
