Oyo APC, Adelabu file petition against Makinde’s election

Progressives Congress and its governorship candidate in Oyo State, Adebayo Adelabu, have formally filed a petition before the election petitions tribunal to challenge the declaration of Seyi Makinde as the winner of the state’s governorship election.The party and its candidate want the tribunal to declare the APC candidate Adelabu the winner of the election.

The Petition has the INEC, as the first respondent while Makinde and PDP as second and third respondents respectively.

On March 10, INEC Returning Officer in the state Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe declared the result of the election at the State headquarters of INEC in Ibadan.

Ogundipe said that Makinde scored 515,621 votes to defeat his closest rival, Adelabu of the APC who garnered 357,982 votes.

The returning officer, who is the Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, disclosed that there were 2,934,107 registered voters in the state with 940,211 voters accredited for the election.

“PDP candidate won in 28 of the 33 local government areas of the state while Adelabu of APC won in five local government areas,” he said.

The National and House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal has also received thirty-one petitions from aggrieved politicians, four petitions emanated from the Senate election, twelve were written on House of Representatives Election while fifteen petitions emanated from House of Assembly Election.
